Collection: Dolores Poacelli

Bio

A fine artist, Dolores Poacelli has been working in her Philadelphia studio for over 30 years. She has also had a long career as a graphic designer. In 2011 she received the New Jersey State Council on the Arts Fellowship in painting, and has received numerous other awards and had many exhibits. Her work can be found in many public and private collections.

Statement

Angsting over starting a new series -thinking of isolation; thinking of the madness of the last three years; thinking of the insecurity of our future physically and politically. Wondering how to express doom in a way that uses intense colors and the power and simplicity of a single shape. After the first two pieces I realized that I was being influenced by one of my favorite painters Phillip Guston. He was a master of taking an extremely serious subject and expressing it in a cartoonish style - bringing us in with a pleasant color scheme and playful shapes and smacking us with reality. I entitled this series RUINS -the ruins created by climate change and denial. The pieces evolving by multi-layering with acrylic and oils building texture and expression. In four and a half months they became a series of forty pieces.
