Bio

A lifelong resident of the Philadelphia area, Kaaren Lobel began pursuing jewelry as a hobby in the 1980’s, taking classes at Cheltenham Art Center, in Cheltenham, PA. The jewelry studio was next to the metal sculpting studio where Kaaren had been studying, and because metal as a media inspired her, she felt that metal smithing would be a natural corollary to the metal sculpting she loved. Jewelry-making quickly took first place, and Kaaren continued to hone her skills by taking courses at Moore College of Art, The University of the Arts, Tyler, and The Penland School of Crafts in Ashville, NC.

Patterning the metal using screens, laces and fabrics, Kaaren works in sterling silver, copper and semi-precious stones. Kaaren’s art reflects her love of geometric forms combined in creative designs which are simple and sophisticated. Recently, she has added more organic forms to her repertoire with a collection of leaf earrings, pins and necklaces. All of Kaaren’s work is hand crafted in her home-based studio in Center City Philadelphia.
