About Dolores Poacelli
"Angsting over starting a new series -thinking of isolation; thinking of the madness of the last three years; thinking of the insecurity of our future physically and politically. Wondering how to express doom in a way that uses intense colors and the power and simplicity of a single shape. After the first two pieces I realized that I was being influenced by one of my favorite painters Phillip Guston. He was a master of taking an extremely serious subject and expressing it in a cartoonish style - bringing us in with a pleasant color scheme and playful shapes and smacking us with reality. I entitled this series RUINS -the ruins created by climate change and denial. The pieces evolving by multi-layering with acrylic and oils building texture and expression. In four and a half months they became a series of forty pieces."
