Rebecca Schultz

Rebecca Schultz is a multi-disciplinary artist living in Elkins Park, PA. Her creative practice includes painting, drawing, and printmaking; installation and performance; and public art. She holds a BFA in painting from Rhode Island School of Design and an MA in Education, with a concentration in Community-Based Arts Education, from San Francisco State University. Since moving to the Philadelphia area in 2016, she has had solo and two-person exhibitions at InLiquid, NoBa Artspace, the Da Vinci Art Alliance, and the Cheltenham Center for the Arts. Her work has been included in juried exhibitions at Site: Brooklyn, 3rd Street Gallery, the Philadelphia Sketch Club, and the Shenandoah Valley Center for the Arts, among others. Rebecca is currently completing her second mural commission with Mural Arts. She has been awarded residencies in Ontario Canada, Iceland, Wyoming, and Ireland, and was a 2019-2020 resident artist at the Cheltenham Center for the Arts.

Rebecca's work is a reflection of her reverence for the wondrous interconnectedness of the web of life and a desire to move others to more deeply witness the natural world. Her painting, drawing, and printmaking sits in the liminal space between abstract and representational, offering an indication of natural form without explicitly depicting it. There is a protean ambiguity that mirrors the mystery of nature. Her most recent series of collages, made while recovering from COVID-19, explore humanity's conflicted relationship with our fellow living beings.
